Spider Man- Into The Spider Verse (2018) Movie Review: Better Than Even Comic Books

If it was feasible and not awkward, I would have kissed every artist that was involved in making this perfect movie- love this movie. I didn’t take my eyes off the screen even for a second. This movie is highly energetic, fast pace and with visuals that are sure to blow your mind. Okay, even before I start with a long article praising it, I request you to play the following video in the background:

You don’t need to watch the trailer for this movie, listen to this music and watch its video, I assure, you will be sold- as I was. Could any superhero movie be any good as this one? The director, Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, wanted to create a movie where the audience stepped into a comic book, and they have created an experience that has set its own benchmark, something even better than a comic book.

To be honest, I am in awe and feeling speechless because this movie has all the components that make it not only entertaining but also rich with its wide range of characters, humour, style, music, direction, art, everything- it is just perfect. Phil Lord, the writer of this movie, has written a story that is keeping the integrity of the first spiderman, Peter Parker played by Jake Johnson, but also shows the brilliance of the new Spiderman, Miles Morales played by Shameik Moore. He achieves this by introducing the concept on which the scholars of quantum physics debate on these days, multi-universe. Adding this dimension to the storyline of Spiderman, not only makes it entertaining, but also refreshes the plot and, of course, the characters involved. The only problem here is, would they be able to maintain such freshness in the plot if they ever make a sequence. I love this movie so much that I don’t want anyone to make a second one if it’s not this original- yes, I get little controlling and possessive of the things I love, who doesn’t?

The character of Miles in the movie was well developed. The audience was introduced to Miles’ family and their interrelations, which later played a role in building the confidence of Miles in his journey to become the new hero of the city. The struggle between Miles’ free artistic flair and his practical restraints were well depicted in the movie. The audience could relate to the psychological struggles that Miles went through to become the new Spider-Man.

Apart from the vivid and mind-blowing animation, another major impactful element of this movie is its humour. They mocked and made reference to the other versions of the Spider-Man, like, Spider-Ham played by John Mulaney, Peni Parker played by Kimiko Glenn, Spider-Man Noir played by Nicolas Cage and Gwen Stacy (spider woman) played by Hailee Steinfeld. The most epic humour scenes are mostly shared by Peter Parker (from another dimension) and Miles. So, if nothing else, the humour scenes are a must-watch.

This movie also contains some action sequences that are extremely thrilling to watch. The villain of this movie, Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) played by Liev Schreiber, seemed extremely scary and ruthless. He was not the only villain of the story, Doc Ock, played by Kathryn Hahn, also added to the thrill by consistent imposing danger in the path of Miles and the old Peter Parker.

This is the best Spider-man movie after the 2002 Spiderman, directed by Sam Raimi. The only thing I regret is not watching this movie sooner. So, if you are looking for a movie that is purely entertaining without sex, drugs or perverse language, this movie is for you.

Though I am sure all the comic book fans and spiderman fans have already watched this movie, I thought to refresh their memory with this review. Also, inform all the people who have not watched this movie yet, do so right now!

As for me, I am going to listen to the ‘sunflower’ song in repeat, and dance, what about you? Have you seen this movie already?
